Do security cameras require a monthly subscription?
No. Watch kits record to a network video recorder and hard drive you own, plus a microSD card in each camera — so live view, playback, and AI detection all work with no subscription, no cloud plan, and no per-camera fee, ever.
Where is my footage stored?
On hardware you own, either way you go: event-based Watch kits record to a WD Purple surveillance microSD card inside each camera, and NVR kits record 24/7 to a WD Purple 4TB drive inside the Ajax recorder in your home. Your footage never depends on someone else's server.
What happens if I stop paying?
Nothing — there's nothing to stop paying. There is no subscription, so recording, playback, and every feature keep working for as long as you own the hardware.
How much footage do the kits keep?
Event-based kits (Solo and Starter) hold weeks of AI-detected events per 128GB card, depending on activity. On the Watch Home Kit, the 4TB drive holds roughly a month of continuous 4K from both cameras at default settings — and a larger drive can be quoted at order.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. Cameras connect over a single Ethernet cable (PoE), the drive drops into the recorder in minutes, and the Ajax app walks you through setup — with our Kent, WA team a phone call away.
